The first type of hazard, the water hazard includes creeks, ditches or anything else of a similar nature on a
golf course. Water hazards are there to add challenge to the course. If your ball lands in a water hazard, you
have two options. The first is to play the ball as close as possible from where the original ball was played.
This will cost you one stroke. The other possibility is to drop the ball behind the water hazard in the point at
which the original ball crossed the margin.

The next type of hazard is the bunker. These are an area where soil and turf have been removed and replaced with
sand. When your ball lands in the bunker, you can play the ball from its current position without any penalty
strokes. It is quite difficult though to get it out of the bunker and requires a special stroke. You must alter
your stroke in such a way that the ball rises enough to escape the hazard. If you find yourself in this situation,
grip the club firmly. Your energy must be concentrated and you must be determined. Depending on the height and
steepness of the bunker, you may not be able to use a straight shot. You should play from an angle, allowing a
greater margin of clearance in the upward flights. This move requires a great deal of practice so you may want to
try it before you end up in this situation.

Avoiding a hazard completely is of course better than having to deal with one. Instead of attempting to clear the
hazard by going over it, you may want to hit the ball around the bunker or water hazard. It may take an extra
club, but it may be worth not having to deal with a problem. As you get more experienced, you will become better
at both avoiding hazards and navigating them once you are in one.
